Hello I posted the below question over the YT forum and someone suggested posting the question here, hopefully someone can help me. Has anyone sucessfully been able to remove the front axle pivot pin on a Super 55? I have tried heat, a slide hammer screwed into the threaded hole in the pin as well as using a section of pipe with a piece of all thread as a puller with no luck. Any suggestions would be appreciated. PS I did remove the set screw from the bottom side. Thanks, Mike

Mike, It's me Super 55. I sent you over here. Just a warning, you might have to wait for a reply. I am guessing that Chris will be away to the get together in PA. |

Mike, All I can say is, more heat. Get a rosebud tip for your acetylene torch. It will make a big flame and heat stuff up quick. Get that casting around the pin hot enough to where it is glowing, and then use your puller. Be sure to heat it evenly, so that the casting doesn't break from the heat. When using heat to remove rusty parts, it is usually best to get parts red hot. At this point, the rust breaks down and looses its grip. And as always, make sure what your heating can take the heat. Aluminum and brass may not come through the ordeal as well as steel. And always have a fire extinguisher handy, just in case. Hope this helps. |
