I know it has been discussed before but I can't remember. Where are all the dates in say an 88? I know there is one stamped in somewhere that tells the assembly date. Is that the assembly date of the engine or of the tractor? How will most read (month, day, year, etc)? |

There is usually a date stamped into the machined surface on the back of the block where the fuel tank support is bolted on. Another place to look for one is on the head near the thermostat. A casting date should be on the side of the block right near the starter. The year may only be one digit, so a 2 would mean 1952 for a fleetline 88. The front frame usually had a casting date in it below the carb area, but I have seen some variation on this. Look on the underside of the tranny for a casting date there too. If memory serves, the date was month-day-year. There was usually a couple of months from the casting date to the assembly date. The dates that are stamped into the machined areas of the motor would be assembly dates for the engine. This would be real close to the final assembly date. |
