How fast should the motor turn over when trying to start. I have heard anywhere from 150 to 400 RPM. I only get about 150 RPM when cranking. Have two new batteries in it. Does it sound like the starter needs to be checked out, or is 150 RPM good enough in the winter?? It is hard to start when it is cold, even with the block heater plugged in. Thanks. |

150 sounds slow to me. I think the closer you can get to that 400 rpm, the better. I'd get the starter checked out, and check or replace the battery cables while you are at it. It doesn't matter how good of shape a diesel is in. If doesn't crank fast enough, it won't start. |
