I need some help with my knotter on an oliver 60 baler. It doesn't like to tie on the right side and it likes to make the bales loose when it does tie. Any sugestions?

Try tightening up the bale tension. There should be 2 handles toward the back of the bale chute with large springs attached to them. Crank those down some to make a tighter bale. If the bale is too loose, the knotters won't work right.

Also, at the front of the bale chamber look for a couple of metal hhoks that stick into the bale chamber. These hold the hay slice in place. If the springs that hold them down are broke, loose hay will get in the way of the needles when they come through. There is a couple on the top of the chamber and 2 or 3 on the bottom. Check those.

Is the bale even, or is it getting filled more on one side than the other?

let me explain myself more clearly. I didn't do that the first time. As you look at the baler from the back, the right side will miss quite a few. when it does tie, the right side will tie looser than the left side. It doesn't matter how many round I go down on the tension rod. The last time, I went down too far and snaped the bar on the chute because it was too tight. Tell me more about these springs, because I have never noticed them

The springs are on a claw like piece of steel that stick into the bale chamber just in front of the knotter on the top and bottom of the bale chamber. When the spring breaks, the claw can't keep the material from fluffing back toward the plunger. There is a spring on each claw, and the spring looks more like a mouse trap spring than a traditional coil spring. They can be hard to see through all of the chaff that is usually around the knotter. But when one of these springs broke on my 720, it behaved the same way as your baler is doing.

I'll be making straw bales in the next few days (if it stops raining every other day) and will try to get some pictures of their location.

I would appreciate that. I have the original owners manual but it doesn't give a part by part detail. I'm the 3rd generation to use this thing and I don't know what has been done to it by my Dad or Uncle. Any help you can give will be very usefull.
