I'm inquiring for a friend who recently discovered an Oliver 6'cultivator in the bush (had to remove an 8" tree growing through the center). The only marking he mentioned was the "231". Where else and what else should he be looking for? Any information regarding original equipment, collector value, etc. would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for any help! Post replies here or email me direct gilmet@telusplanet.net |

That doesn't ring any bells for me, sorry. Do you have a picture you could send? That would really help. You can email it to webmaster@olivergang.org

Chris: A picture is in the works , but will take a week or so as they wait for the mailbag to get full before sending it out of northern Saskatchewan via snailmail. I did get a more detailed description though, so here goes. Painted on the R/H side is Oliver 231 Patended 1920. S/N is 7PTFAL30VAT0N and the model may be GRAND BRI?N. The frame is angle iron, 101" outside from hub to hub and is about 3' long from the hitch. There are 9 shanks about 6" apart. There is a hand wheel to adjust the height and a rope to trip the shanks to drop. There is a lift mechanism to raise the platform running off the left wheel. Wheels are steel and 38" in diameter. There is still original paint, (faded)red and green with yellow wheel hubs. The unit is in good overall condition, nothing bent or broken. There is also an "alligator" jaw open end wrench that fits most of the bolts and springs needed for adjustment. Original equipment? Hope this helps to track the unit down. Any info is helpful. I'll email photos as soon as they arrive. Regards and thanks, Dennis |
