While looking at some spart parts catalogs, it APPEARED that the sectors used for the late model Ford 8N are very similar to those used by Oliver for the 550. Is this the case??? Are they interchangable?

I have heard that they are, but haven't tried it myself.

Ian C., you have worked at a New Holland dealer, what do you know about it?

They do look similar, but I highly doubt they will interchange. Only the late 8N was similar to the 550 box, the early one with the round covers was not close. Henry was still alive then, so I don't think they would have outsourced it, especially with a GM subsidiary. It's not past them to do a little copying (ask Harry Fergusson). Or maybe it was Saginaw Steering Gear that did the copy job. Go to your local NH dealer (if he was with Ford), they'll probably have a couple of "donor" units apart for parts so you can examine them.

OOPS! Didn't pass history class I guess. For some reason I thought Henry lived till 1953 and saw the "Jubilee" of the company. Still goes about one being a copy (reverse engineered to be politically correct).
