I am interested in buying a small Oliver tractor locally. The one I am considering has had the model number painted over. Serial number is supposed to be 13517-518.Spec. number 15-0005.The problem is it shifts very hard. Seller says it's because the shift fingers on the shift lever are broken. Can a new shift lever be found? Do we have the right number? It is a row crop model with a wide front end.Can someone supply aprice range?

It is a 1955 Oliver Super 55.
Chances are the shifting problem is that the shift boot got weathered, and water got into the transmission. Then the shift rails get rusty and don't move to well. Best solution to the problem is to remove the three point hitch cover and clean up the shift rails. You could also try using it for a while and maybe repeated shifting will clear up some of the rust. If it does have water in the transmission, it is definitely going to need new transmission lube.
As far as price goes, I've seen rough ones go as low as $1,000 and people asking $6,000 for ones in very good shape. $3,000 to $4,000 seems to be average. Power steering adds to the value. Hope this helps.
