I have what I thought was a Super 77. I
was looking at the serial number and from
what I can find (not much) it might be a Super 66.
The plate has two numbers:
Specification #: 17-1491

Serial #: 14 788-702

I am not sure what all that means.

Joe,
You have a 1955 Super 77. A 66 has a 4 cyl. engine and a 77 has a 6-cyl. In addition, if it were a 66 the spec number would start with 16-.

Hello out there,
I'm not real sure how to operate this contraption,
but here we go.
I'm working on what was an oliver tractor. It has been converted into a gradeall type of forklift, and
whoever did the conversion did nice job. The owner uses it on his framing jobs{6,000 sq. ft.+ custom homes} in the Boise,Idaho area. It will raise trusses two stories high. the model #347-71005
serial#195-240-099
can anybody tell me what it started out life as?
He has owned the machine for ten years and put nothing in it but tune-ups and a regular maintainance program.
thank you

That model number doesn't come up in the book I have. Is the 347 right? the 7 after the - means industrial and the 1 after it means gas engine.
If it is 347, i'm not sure of the model because several models used that serial number range. Maybe someone else can shed some light on it.

I wlll check the numbers again to be sure.
The tag on is on the right side of the gear case,
and the tag is missing on the engine. It's a six cylinder with casting numbers on the manifold side
reading 185320
160918A
6146
Thank you for your help. I will get back to you on the 347 number.

Looks like I have found it.
The 160918A is the part number for the engine block for a 1550, 1555, 2-62, or 2-63. From the serial number you gave and the parts numbers you listed, I would have to say it started life as a 2-62. This is the industrial version of the 1550 tractor. Looks like it is a 1967 model. It could be a 1550, since they used the same serial number range as the 2-62.

Do you have a picture of this tractor you could post? If you are unsure as how to post a picture, you could email it to me and I can post it for you. There is a picture of a 1550 utility in the photos section of this site. It was submitted by Bob Moe. You might want to look at it and see if it is similar to what you have.

Thanks for the info! Now if I can find a governor or a rebuild kit for the governor I'll have a happy machine, and a return customer to add to a very short list of people I do wrench work for. I'm a self employed jack-of-several trades.
It looks like Mr. Moe is a fine craftsman in his own right. I'll get a picture of this tractor to you ASAP, and have my better half show me how. I need to know anyway, and we have all the right stuff to get the job done.
Thanks again for the info. If I can't find parts locally I may call on your good advice again.

If you can't find a local source, you might try http://www.maibachtractor.com . They ship UPS all over the country.
There were 2 different governors that were used in the 1550. The big difference is the small end of the shaft on the early one is 7/16's of an inch and later engines had one with a 3/8's inch shaft end. They are interchangeable between engines as long as you switch the governor housing and internal parts as a complete assembly. A governor from a 1650 will work too. (I switched the governors between my 1550 and 1650, so I know they'll work).
Governor parts are available, but pricey.
Let me know if you have any other questions.
