I have my eye on an Oliver 3240ST 2 bottom plow. I know nothing about plowing, but I am restoring a Super 55 that I want to use the plow with. I live in the Fraser Valley of BC and never see Oliver implements. The one I found is owned by a fellow in Edmonton Alberta. What would be a fair price for one in good shape? Right now it is painted yellow, but I would like to paint it the original colours. What wears out on these plows, and what area should I look for damage? Please email me at pstanley411@telus.net |

Here in southern Michigan, it seems to me that old plows go for about $100 a bottom. Real good ones will bring a little more. I have 2 mounted Oliver 2 bottom plows. I paid $200 each for them. One has coulters that are pretty worn and the other has a shin that needs replaced. The main area to look at is the frog. If it is worn, then there isn't much to bolt any new metal to. Check the shanks to see if they have been broken. I haven't seen it on these smaller plows, but if a shank has been welded back together, it may be crooked, or prone to failing again. Also, try giving a little kick to each bottom to see if there is much wear in the pivots and the mounting hardware. Hope this helps |
