I'd like to buy a tractor to use around home. I'll be mowing large areas, towing a trailer to carry wood, scraping the driveway and hopefully pulling a wagon occasionally for hayrides. I have an opportunity to buy a 1962 Oliver 550. I plan to keep the tractor I buy for a really long time. I live in west Michigan around Muskegon. I'm concerned that I may not be able to get parts when necessary in the future for this tractor. I asked at a dealership that used to sell Olivers and they thought parts would not be a problem. I have heard the opposite from others. What do you folks think? |

I don't think parts will be a problem for a long time. I was a parts man for a White dealer and when I left in 1995 you could get most any vital parts you would need. If AGCO would stop making certain parts I am sure someone in the aftermarket business would pick it up. Oliver built the 550 from 1958 into the mid 1970's so there are a lot of them out there. Not many make it to the salvage yard either. I would not be concerned. We have one and it is a wonderful little tractor. Everything the Ford 8N wanted to be but wasn't. |

I agree with Matt 100%. There were so many of these tractors made, that parts should be available for a long time. With AGCO now having their 'Heritage Line' of parts, I have heard that some parts are being produced again and others have had price drops. I have a Super 55, a 550, and a 2-44FL fork lift and I use them all on a regular basis. They are such handy units to have. |
