What is the easiest way to tell the difference between the 77 and 88? Thanks, Geoffrey Heck |

The easiest way I know of that doesn't use parts numbers is the hump for the bull gears. On the transmission cover where your feet rest, the pan humps up for the bull gears in the final drives. On the 88 this hump comes up about an inch or more. (I'd have to go measure to give an exact measurement) On the 77 this hump is there, but doesn't come up much at all. On 66's, there is no hump. I believe the radiator shell on a 77 is narrower than the 88. The grille peices are interchangeable between the 77 and the 66. Other than that, check for casting numbers on the engine. 77 engine parts numbers start with the letter M. 88 engine parts start with the letter K. |
