Hi, I am looking to buy an Oliver 66 Diesel and I was wondering if some experts could give me some input as what to look for (and look out for) when purchasing one of these tractors. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks |

The only things I can think of are to check the regular things. Check the engine oil for level, and smell the oil too to see if there is any diesel fuel leaking into the crankcase. Try driving it in all gears and listen for clunks. Check the hydraulic oil (if it has hydraulics on it). If it is white or creamy looking it has water in it and the pump may have damage from water freezing in it. If you can, check the rear end oil by removing the check plug on the rear end housing near the PTO. If it is white/creamy looking, it has water in it too. This isn't as bad water in the hydraulics, but still needs to be changed. If lots of oil comes out of the check plug, then the hydraulic pump probably needs rebuilt to stop the seals from letting hydraulic oil into the rear end. Beyond that, look for wear and abuse to external parts. Parts are readily available for this tractor, but some of the parts for the fuel system can get pricey. If anybody has anything they know of to look out for one these tractors, let us know. |
