I have a 1650 diesel and was wondering how expensive it can get to have a hydrapower rebuilt?? Mine works fine in direct but only works for a few feet in the low side. If you ride the brake when u let the clutch out it will hold in the low side. Any ideas on what is wrong will be appreciated. Thanks |

Sounds like the sprag clutch is getting bad. Probably the some of the drag stips are broken off. A sprag clutch is around $300 or so, and a seal kit is about $100. Add a couple hours to pull the motor, 3 hours to disassemble and rebuild the hydra-power, and a couple more hours to put the engine back in. With the proper shop equipment and a shop manual, this really isn't too hard to do. If you have any bad shafts in there, it could start pushing the price tag much higher, up into the $2,000 total price range. I would change the hydra-power oil and filter and run it a while to see if that helps. 5 quarts of ATF and a filter are a pretty cheap investment if all that is wrong is the sprag clutch is a little gummed up. If not, they help filter out some of the bad stuff before you have it torn down. |
