I am finally getting around to finishing up the differential adjustments on my Super 55. I believe I have the end play adjusted correctly and I measured the backlash in four spots on the bevel gear. The average is .0085, the ring gear calls for .008. Am I within tolerances or do I have to get it spot on? |

I wouldn't worry about a half of a thousandth of an inch. Most other backlash measurements in that tranny have 1 to 2 thousandths tolerance on them. Only the bushings in the gears get into the fourth digit of tolerance. Keep us posted. |

Okay, thanks, that's basically what others said. I just wanted to be sure. Tomorrow I'll try and get the new brakes on. Next the rear wheels, and finally the tranny cover. Although, since I have the tranny cover off, I'm going to do some exploring and maintenace. I have to field adapt the filler tube and and move the air breather higher to put on some external controls. Thanks for the info. |
