I just bought an Oliver crawler with front loader. Says model 46 on the plate. Can anyone tell me something about this tractor? What is the gear shift pattern? It is gasoline and has a 12-volt battery. The choke appears to be wired open. there are 4 levers on the right side. Two operate the bucket and the other two seem to just kill the engine?? Jack

You probably have an OC46.
I almost no experience with this model of crawler. Your best bet is to go to www.cletrac.org and ask them on their message board.
It sounds like some of the hydraulics may be plumbed wrong.

Thanks Chris. I have found an old manual with it that says "OC-3" on the cover. We started it yesterdayand it runs beautifully. The two small levers run pairs of hydraulic (?) pipes that dead-end up by the front bucket. ? The gears are a mystery. The shift lever just flops around all over, the manual suggests 3-speed, but we may have found 4th gear and maybe 6 gears. No marks to indicate where the gears are. Finally found a reverse. Only think keeping me from using it every day is the gear shift mystery. Thanks again, Jack.

More details,Chris. Under lots of black grease on the right side of engine is a silver plate saying "Oliver model 1XB-3"
Bore 31/4 Stroke 4"
engine # 2498681TC

So perhaps the old manual that I have is not for this model.?? Any comments? Jack in Oregon

If it is an OC-3 it will look like this:
oc3

The serial number plate is on the bell housing where the red circle is. I can tell you some info with the numbers on that plate.

OK, thanks a lot, chris. Mine doesn't look even close. Does the model # 1XB-3 mean anything? And engine # 2498681 ??

IXB-3 is the engine model number. This engine was made by Hercules. The other number is the engine serial number.

Some of the OC-46 had 3 cylinder engines, I take it yours does?

Well, I can see 4 spark plugs, two sort of grouped in front and two in back. The side plate says "firing order 1-2-4-3 I think. With the loader attachments on it, we find it hard to get to any part of the engine. I'll keep looking for an ident plate. Jack

And I have been told now that the engine is a Continental.

With an IXB-3 model number on the engine, I don't see how it could be anything other than a Hercules engine.

Yep, You are so right. I checked and it is a Hercules. Thanks Chris. I've been gone to Montana for 5 days but I'll try getting some pictures of it and try to post. Jack
