Anyone know anything about the 520 baler? I found one behind a barn today where I cut some hay. It's been setting for quite some time and the owner said the last time he used it the bill hooks? came up through the back. It didn't look too bad to me but I didn't know what I was looking for. I think I can get it for a little of nothing. Were they good balers or should I leave it wnere it sets? |

I have a 720 Oliver baler and it has been a very good baler. I would guess that the 520 is good too since it is a smaller capacity version. Parts are getting hard to find for these, so you'll want to check it over real good. If it has been sitting out for a long time, make sure that the plunger isn't rusted in place by turning the flywheel by hand. If that is set up, it is going to be a lot of work to get running. Working old Oliver balers can be bought for a few hundred dollars, so it doesn't take a lot of repair $$s to justify buying a good one. |
