Have read other posts elsewhere that mention how easy they start. Mine seems a little 'slow to get going'. What should I look for first? Runs fine once started. Ex. yesterday it was damp, but around 70. Cranked for about 30 sec total. |

I would start with the starter. Cranking speed will make all the difference in the world on a diesel starting. Battery cables can look good on the outside, but have corrosion on the inside the impedes the current. A weak battery won't help either. Starters can get weak too. Any good business that rebuilds starters and alternators should be able to check it out for you. Next thing I would check would be is the injectors. If they don't have a good spray pattern, it will keep it from starting good. Pull them out and take them to a reputable diesel service shop. Anything after that would involve tearing the engine down. A valve grind can make a big difference. If the piston rings are worn, then you are looking at an over haul. If it was cold out, I would say the pre-heater, but it should start without assitance just fine at 70 degrees. |
