I am still looking for information on my newly acquired Oliver Tractor. I would like to establish a date when it was made but as it has numbers in sevveral places, I don't know what numbers to use to try to identify it. There is an ID plate under the steering wheel of
385-22152 .

You have an 1850 diesel with the adjustable wide front axle. On the same tag there should be another set of numbers. That is your serial number, I can tell you the year with that number.

Thanks Chris. The Serial # is 198896-528.

Looks like your 1850 is a 1967 model year.

I have a Oliver 60 and would appreciate advice on adjusting the carburetor.

I start with the idle screw out about 1-1/2 turns and the load screw out about 2-1/2 turns. Get it running and then adjust the idle screw until it runs smoothly at an idle. Then open it up quickly, and if it sputters, turn the load screw out 1/2 turn and try again. If it sends out lots of black smoke with a rapid acceleration, turn the load screw in 1/2 turn and try again. I try to get mine where it will accelrate smoothly with the least amount of black smoke as possible. Do all of this with the engine warmed up. Seems to work pretty good for me.

Have an early 1935 model 28-44 (140th made in 35) that is unrated (blank) on the serial # plate where the hp should be stamped. It has a high compression head currently but the only refrence I found to this paticular tractor is mention by Wendel in his book where under a picture caption he called it an "Oliver Special" but admitted not knowing what made it special. Does anyone know anything about this unrated 28-44?

I believe that the higher compression is what made it special. Does yours have the cast iron wheels all the way around? They made what they called a Thresherman's Special, that had these flat cast wheels and the higher compression engine. They are supposed to be quite rare.

The regular 28-44 later became the model 90 and the high compression special became the model 99.

My 28-44 is on cut down rubber that appears to be the conversion kit mentioned in the Wendell book wherein the fronts are replaced by round spoke wheels and the rears are cut down from steel.

I saw a Thresermans Special sell at Watertown WI this spring but this is not one. That tractor was a very late model that may have been a high compression special - if I remember correctly.

I have been trying to determine if I have the correct oil and temp gauges, air cleaner, fuel tank etc. with this tractor. Know the governor has been converted to a variable speed from a fixed speed. It has occured to me a parts book may provide some guidance as to correct componets by serial # breaks. Would love to hear from anyone who has one of these unrated 28-44s and compare notes. My email is brofarm@iowatelecom.net. Thanks to Oliver gang for providing this site and info.

To get a manual, go to our links page and go to the Floyd County Museum web site. They sell original and copies of original manuals for Oliver and the related companies.

We have a (we think) 1965 Oliver diesel tractor with a plate under the steering wheel which reads 265-2208 and rail #163795-456. Can anyone tell us what model and year we have? Also it has a 1610 loader on the front. We need to replace the bucket, good condition, best cost. Any ideas?

You have a 1965 Oliver 1650 diesel with the adjustable wide front axle.

Schwartz made the loaders for Oliver, but I'm not sure as to whether they are still in business. You might be able to find another make that will fit. If you take your old bucket to a local welding/fabrication shop, they might be able to fab you a new one for less money.
