Found a 1550 with front end loader for sale, but has narrow front end. Any ideas on where to find a wide front end, estimate of cost and ease of conversion (I'm no mechanic!!). Also, any estimate of value so I can figure out if it's worth the dollars?!!!The lady told me it was a mid-80's model, were these made that recently? |

I don't know of any wide fronts for sale at this time, but a good one for the 1550 would be around $500. As for switching, it is easy, with the right equipment. You'll need something that can hold the front of the tractor up safely so that the pedastal can be removed and the wide front put in it's place. The front grille will need to come off, and possibly the radiator depending on how well you can work in small areas. You then need to remove the cover off the steering box, then remove the seal cap off the pinion gear and then remove the bolt that holds the pinion gear on the steering shaft. Then you can un-bolt the front pedastal and lift the tractor to get it out. Then roll in the wide front and reverse the procedure. Be sure to use new o-rings so the steering box doesn't leak, and make sure the wheels are straight and the dots line up on the gears inside the steering box. This might be a hard job to do with the loader still on. A good 1550 is going to be worth around $4000 with a loader. The 1550 was only made during the 1960's. |
