I was wondering if anyone has any experience
with Oliver hay balers. I have a chance to get
a model #60 baler that has been sitting for
a few years. I would like to know if these
were good machines, parts availability, years
made, etc. Thanks.

I have a 720 Oliver baler with a number 19 bale thrower. It is about 10 years newer than the 60, but has been a very reliable machine. I have used it in some capacity for about 15 years now, and the most I have had to do is replace the belts (all of the belts are for the bale thrower) and a couple of springs. As a matter of fact, I am planning on taking it out to bale some hay tomorrow.
I have always heard good comments about the Oliver balers, and if the 720 is any indication, you should be happy with the 60. The down side is parts are getting hard to get for the Oliver balers. When Oliver sold the baler line, they sold it to Hesston. AGCO now owns the Oliver and Hesston names, so your best bet is probably going to an AGCO dealer or getting parts from a scrap yard.

On the plus side, there are quite a few 60 balers still out there that sell pretty cheap at auctions. You could buy one to have for a parts machine cheaper than some of the parts might cost you new.

The model 60 baler was made from 1956 until 1959. If you can post the serial number, I can tell you what year it is.

Thank you for the information. I'll get the
serial # and get back to you.
