I am painting my 1948 Oliver Rowcrop and need know if the yellow extends down the middle of the hood from the yellow on the radiator cap cover. Mine was painted yellow HOWEVER the tractor has been painted previously. Thanks Mike

There has been some debate on this subject, and here are the two versions I have heard.

Explanation #1:
The first 2 years of fleetline production (1948 and 1949) had the yellow stripe all the way down the hood as yours does.

Explanation #2:
When preping a tractor to either be in photos or at farm show and fairs, the stripe would be painted yellow to spruce up the look of the tractor. With this explanation, any tractor could be either way.

Also, many color pictures in calendars, literature and advertising of that time were actually black and white photos that were then colorized for printing. These photos were limited to 2 or 3 colors, so sometimes they would take a little 'artistic license' to make the tractors look good with the colors they had to use.

With all of that said, I would say you could go either way with the stripe. It really does set off the tractor very nicely. I think the majority of people would tell you to paint it yellow.

Hope this wasn't too long winded.
