Anybody know how to get a stuck 3pt lift rocker pin out of a S55 top casting? My pin won't budge. I've tried soaking in PB blaster, heat, pounding, and the wax trick. Nothing budges. I am pretty sure I will have to destroy the lift rocker and pin to get this thing apart. Anybody got any replacement parts? It's a 1957 tractor, so it's got the double feedback hydraulics. Thanks. |

I've found that for heat to work, you need to get whatever you are heating to a cherry red to break the rust. This can be hard to do with cast iron. Do you have a rosebud tip for your torch set? It makes a big flame and LOTS of heat. When it is hot, you might try turning the pin with a pair of pliers, vise grips, pipe wrench, etc. to break the rust. Turning something to break it free can be easier than pounding. I am wondering, why are you trying to remove it? If it is to remove the hydraulic/three point cover, why not run the bolts below the pin out as far as you can, then lift the cover unit, and then turn the bolts out some more, and repeat the process until they are out. If you have some other repair in mind, looks like you have a bit of work ahead of you. Maybe I'm not thinking of the same pin as you though. |

I have to remove it because the lift rocker is twisted and broken. Also the spring pivot retainer thing is not tightened down against the spring, which means every time I try to pull tillage, I can't get it into the ground since the reaction force causes the 3pt to lift. It's the big pin that the rocker pivots on. I think you have the right pin. I'm probably going to have to cut the rocker off, and either drill out the pin, or pull the cover and get it pressed out. I don't have a full torch set yet, just a MAPP gas cylinder. |

Sounds like you need more heat. Remember the old (or maybe it's new...) saying, 'When in doubt, burn it out!' Of course, that's with all of the proper saftey precautions. Drilling sounds like a lot of work, especially if the pin has gotten harder from all of the heating and beating. (Similar to getting it forged). Let us know if you have any luck or if you need further help. |
