If the numbers on the transmission read 6 18, is that the month and day it was cast? Is that when the tractor was actually put together or close to it? |

My guess would be June 1st, 1948. Their usual method was month, day, and the last digit of the year. I have seen casting dates where some of the numbers didn't get filled and one or more of the digits don't show up that well. So it could be June 18th as well. From what I have seen, there was usually about 2-3 months between the casting dates and assembly dates. Our 60 had an assembly date stamped into the head under the valve cover near or under one of the valve train supports. It's been ten years since we restored it, so I'd have to find the pictures we took to know for sure. |
