My family has recently begun sorting through some of my late grandfather's farm equipment. My mother was interested in finding out the value of an Oliver drill that was probably purchased in the early 40s. Seems to be in good condition with original paint in good shape. Would anyone know any about this sort of thing or be able to direct me to more information? This is my first attempt!

I recently saw an Oliver grain drill from the 50's (model 64) sell at an auction about 3 weeks ago. It was in quite good shape and sold for $350 if memory serves correctly.
If yours is in good shape, it's probably worth about $300. While implements are gaining in popularity, they just aren't bringing in the big money like the tractors do.

The serial number on the one I saw was on the right rear corner of the seed box. I don't know if this was consistent for all models, though. If you can find the serial number, post it here and I should be able to find a year of manufacture for you.

Oliver's drills were made in Springfield, Ohio. This was the former home of the American Seeding Company until the merger of 1929. For more on the history of Oliver, go to the link section of this site and click on the link for oliverinformation.com and then click on history.
