I am doing research on the Peru Plow Works in Peru Illinois. I was told that Peru made running gears for Oliver around the late 20's to early 30's. Does any one have any proof of this? I was also told that pamphlets describing machinery etc. were printed with Peru on the bottom of the Oliver shield. Is there any one who can clarify this "hearsay" knowledge? |

To the best of my knowledge, the Electric Wheel Co. made all of the running gears for Oliver. I have never seen or heard anything about 'Peru" running gears. Anybody else know anything about this? |

I have an Oliver running gear made by the Electric Wheel Co. I have not heard of Peru running gears though. |

Regarding the running gears, did the Electric Wheel Co. customize paint schemes for the companies that bought them? I have one with a red frame and green wheels and was wondering if that was standard. I think it would look more "Oliver" if it was the other way around. |

They did for Oliver. Oliver's color scheme changed over the years. Green was a color that came with the aquisition of Hart-Parr. The color would depend on the age of your running gear. Early Oliver plows and equipment were as a rule painted red with yellow wheels. I believe around the merger of 1929, they switched to red frames with green wheels. Next they went to green frames with red wheels. In the 50's they painted the frames and wheels green, and then finally the green with white rims after 1958. I have some literature showing the red frames on the running gears from the 30's. |
