Do all the front end loaders on the 550s require a seperate hydraulic pump? Can the pump for the 3 pt hitch be tapped and used? Also I have a spare 550 transmission in pretty decent shape for sale. I don't know what its worth but all the gears and bearings look great. I purchased it for the pto assembly.

No, you do not need to have a seperate pump, but it would be more beneficial. Reason why is that the OEM pump only is rated at 4-5 GPM, and would be able to operate a loader just way slow. To operate even a small loader you need minimum 10GPM. That is why most loaders use prince pumps and a seperate hydraulic tank on the side of the loaders. Prime example is the farmhand loaders. |

If you need to use the PTO and the loader throw that PTO pump idea out and get a crankshaft driven pump. Do some math as far as the size of loader cylinders is concerned and the amount of time you feel would be good for the cylinders to raise. Also remember all pumps are rated on theoretical displacement. I would go with a crank driven pump. Get back with us with some dimensions on cylinder bore and stroke, how fast you want them to raise, what speed you want the engine to run while doing this. I would also recommend a valve with a float position. More questions? |
