I just bought an oliver 77 row crop and it has two little electrical boxes on the steering column with levers coming out of both and they are for the draft control I think. It also has two hydraulic cylinders mounted on the tractor as well. I was just wondering if anyone had any information about this. I'm just curious about the tractor and would like to know how rare it is or if it is a pretty common thing on the 77's. My dad always had olivers when i was growing up and i never remember seeing any 77's with this on them. Thanks to anyone who can help.

Well You either have a "Group 1 or a Group 2 hydralectric unit. There are 4 positions for those little levers and they are the switches that make the cylinder extend and retract. Draft control is more correclty associated with a linkage used with 3 point hitches. How long are the hose on the right side cylinder? Are they 4 feet long or longer> If they are just 4 feet and there is no breakaway unit near the PTO handle the tractor was set up to control each side of front mounted cultivator. The breakaway on the right side would be used with a cylinder and say 7 foor hoses to raise and lower a trailing implement such as a plow or disk. That hydraulic unit has a serial number and so does the tractor. How about posting both?

To expand on Johns comments, the type 1 units are purely electric, the type 2units will have to very short stubs coming out of the side of the resevoir housing allowing mechanical operation of the valves. THe beauty of the hydralectric system was that it allowed you to change the depth stop setting of remote cylinders from the seat of the tractor. You could "ginch up" anybodys system after it had reached depth to allow shallower operation, but only Olivers system allowed you to set it deeper.

I have been helping a young man east of town on an 88. He bought a used hydraulic unit. The reservoir has no place for the electric plug to go into the unit, but it has the handles on the side and not out the top. First one of those reservoirs I ever ran into.

I wonder if it was originally off an OC-6? I've got a single valve unit on mine and that's the way it is set up. No provision for electrics.
