I have a 1951 "77" and it had a 12 volt system on it when I got it, I would like to switch it to a 6 volt system, I was told it shouldnt make a differance on the starter but I cant get it to turn over fast enough with a 6 volt battery to get it started, Do I need to get a differant stater or what can I do? |

This may be just me but if I was going to use the tractor I would leave the 12 volt system in place. It will crank the tractor faster and the batterys will last longer. If restoring for show and you want "as sold" then you may have to put up with a slow turning starter. Also, if it was converted to 12 volt I'm sure you know that the voltage regulator and generator were changed and will need to be changed back, unless the charging system was disconnected. Hope this helps |
