Hi - I just purchased my first tractor (Oliver 770, 1962). To my knowledge, the manual's suggested "102 082-A oil additive" is no longer available. From various discussion boards and searches,it seems that for the Transmission and Power take-off one could use 80-90W gear lube except in the winter when you may want to thin it out with 10W30 motor oil. For the hydraulic system - - it looks like I should be able to use either 10W hydraulic oil without the additive or just use ATF. Also, for the fuel, it seems like I should try and use octane higher than 90 and incorporate a lead additive. Do you have any insights? |

On the fuel. Your 770 should have hard valve seats same as automitve vehicles with there induction hardned seats. On the hydraulic, are you going to use it a lot in the winter? I would not use the ATF. Where are you located. We had a lot of customers with 770 & 880 tractors with 80-90 gear oil and they would use them for normal winter work. If you don't have a power booster it is a mute point. Questions? |

Thanks John. I'm located in SE Michigan. The usage shouldn't be a lot, it mostly depends on the amount of snow. For the lifting system, it sounds like I should just use a quality hydraulic fluid. And for the transmission & PTO the 80-90W should do the trick. It does have power boost. Are there concerns with the 80-90W for that? |

I bought a 1959 770. It does not have power steering. Is it possible to add it? |

Sure: Now what type do you want to add or how much money do you want to spend? |
