Once I get this 4-210 and 2255 out of the way am going to start on a 1850 we picked up cheap at a auction. Need to rebuid engine, it isn't stuck but turns so hard that clutch will slip when we tried to bump start it. Heard this tractor run a few days before the auction and it sounded real good, the day of the auction they said the key was left on and the batteries were down. What actually happened in the space of 48 hours I don't have a clue. One of the guys over at Wyatt thinks that the spare O/U out of a parts 1855 that we have, will work behind the Perkins. Does anybody know what is needed to make this work? Would really prefer the 3 speed over the two for making hay.

The over/under was designed to fit in the same space as the hydra-power drive. So all you need to do is take the bell housing off the hydra power and put it on the over/under, as the Perkins used a different bell housing from the Waukesha. Everything else should be the same.

You'll also need to take the oil cooler off the 1855 and put it on the 1850. The hydra power was water cooled, the over/uner was air cooled.

That should do it. And for those that may be wondering, the over/under from a 1655 is almost the same, but has a different input shaft, because it uses a smaller main clutch.

I was kinda of thinking that it shouldn't be a big deal. The original lever should still work too, our neighbors 1850 came with the O/U from factory and his shifter lever is next to throttle like the 55 series. I really can't see the original one down low not working for three speeds instead of two.
