My name is rusty hansen, I recently bought an oliver 550. The pto does not work but everything else does. It even came with a loader. I found the linkage for the pto handle to the lever that is suppose to engage and disengage. The clutch assembly was off the pto driveshaft. I put it back on and the pto will not disengage. I do not know a lot about tractors, this is my first. Can someone please give me some idea about what to try next. Thank You very much for your help. Rusty |

I take it from what you are saying that you have split the tractor? If so, it would be best to disassemble the PTO clutch and check it out. There is a set screw in there that is supposed to keep the clutch from coming off the shaft, like has happened to yours. If the clutch keeps moving aorund, you can't dis-engage and re-engage it. That set screw has been known to back out or break off. Also it would be a good idea to take the clutch discs out of the pack and see if they are flat. Warped ones will drag and keep the PTO spinning all of the time. If you need more help, part of the manual that covers PTO for the Super55/550 is in the photo section of this site. Or just let us know here and we'll do our best to help.

Thank you Admin, I have not split the tractor. I reached up into the access hole under the tractor and put it back in place. I saw a place for a screw but, did not know if it was supposed to have one in it. It does not have one in it now. I will try to determine the thread size and replace it with a new set screw. I will let you know how things turn out. |
