I just bought a 1969 oliver model 1678 backhoe loader and it has a 6 cyl diesel engine..I was wondering of some of you could help me out and identify what kind of engine it is and who makes it..To me it looks like a hercules or a waukeshaw but i am not sure..It has a roosa-master fuel pump so i don't think that it is a perkins..Any help would be appreciated as i need to rebuild it...I can be reached at huff@dreamscape.com |

I am not familiar with a model 1678, but I also don't have alot of experience with the industrial models. This tractor is probably a 2-78 (2 wheel drive) or 4-78 (4 wheel drive). If it is a 1969, then it would have the same engine as a late 1650 or an early 1655. This was a Waukesha engine. It is the 283 cubic inch, direct injection model. You would be able to get a rebuild kit from your local AGCO dealer ( www.agcocorp.com ). You might also try an auto parts store that is near farm country. If you could post the serial number and model number, I should be able to give you more info. The numbers will be on a tag on the cast iron pedastal that the dash sits on. |

I went to look for some literature, and lo and behold, I found this... 1678 is the model number of your loader. 1617 is the model number of your backhoe. 1650, 2-78 or 4-78 is the model number of your tractor. |
