Here's the story: Had a cracked intake manifold last year and the intake & exhaust are basically welded together (a bit on the old side). Ordered the new intake and exhaust from (name omitted on purpose)and installed them (after waiting about six months for delivery). The exhaust is a different casting # than the original. The intake was same casting number. Castings are not up to finer standards. Anyway, got it all put together and had hard starting and had to run choke at 1/2 (some loss of power). Did all the air leak checks, gas cap, tank clean, etc. Carb is getting gas. Figured OK, the castings are leaking where I can't find it, so back to the originals we go (gooped up the crack with high temp silicone). Put it all back together and actually got some improvement. Easier to start and power at 1/2 throttle, 1/2 choke. Cleaned needles and seats, drained bowl, etc. No help. Anyone got other suggestions? My next move is gumout and then carb rebuild (I think). Really don't want to do this if unecessary. Thanks for any suggestions. |
