Is it possible to add power steering and what would it take? Thanks, Mike from Angola, IN

It is possible. But it would take a parts tractor with all the power steering parts on it to do a swap. To the best of my knowledge, there are no after-market power steering add-on kits.

If your tractor is a 1954, then it is a Super 55. Oliver didn't start making the 550 until 1958.

Thanks Chris, and I stand corrected(must have been the heat from the past week)I own a 1958 550. Went to the Steuben 4H fair couple of weekends ago, sure was impressed with the smoothness of a couple of 70's pulling there. Thanks again, Mike

I'm working on a power steering kit for my 55. Probably another year or so. Got all the hydraulic sizing worked out. Should be pretty easy too.

Mark,
I think that if you can get an affordable power steering kit made up for the Super 55 and/or 550, you'll have a good money maker on your hands. Keep us informed on it, I'm sure that there are lots of people that would buy one from you.

I am currently looking at buying a 550 (not sure what year). I was wondering what fair market value is for a 550. It's in really nice shape. I'm not sure if it has been over hauled or not. If someone could help me out that would be great.

Paul,
Here's what I have seen. A good 550 on average will bring between $3,000 and $4,000. Ones in rough or poor shape will go in the $1,000 - $2,000 range. Ones that are restored will have price tags around $5,000 or more. Add power steering and a loader and you're looking at $6,000. I have heard of higher asking prices than that, but I would guess that they still own 'em too.
